- Atlanta Public School System to Privatize Cleaning Operations
May 14, 2012 — The Atlanta, GA, Public School Board recently announced plans to replace half of its current custodial staff with contract workers.
Atlanta school officials claim that privatizing 75 of the school system’s 150 custodial positions will save the city US$5.7 million per year, reports The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The school board plans to employ custodial staffers only during the day at elementary schools, while contractors will be used for overnight cleaning at all schools and day cleaning at middle schools and high schools.
