Indianapolis Janitors Seek New Contract

June 28, 2012 — Custodial workers in Indianapolis, IN, are appealing to the Indianapolis City Council for assistance in contract renegotiation.

The 750 janitors, all part of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1, are seeking a pay increase, reports The Indianapolis Business Journal. The current contract between SEIU and area cleaning-service providers pays the workers US$8.80 per hour and is set to expire July 31. Indianapolis City Council President Maggie Lewis introduced a general resolution in support of the janitors earlier this week.
