ISSA Announces 2024 Outstanding Government Service Awards Winners

ISSA announced the recipients of the 2024 ISSA Outstanding Government Service Awards during the association’s Clean Advocacy Summit. The award recipients were selected by ISSA with input from its Government Affairs Advisory Committee.

The recipients of this year’s awards are Utah Governor Spencer J. Cox and U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger (D-VA-7).

“ISSA thanks Representative Spanberger and Governor Cox for their outstanding government service,” said ISSA Executive Director John Barrett. “On behalf of the more than 10,500 ISSA members, we congratulate them on their well-deserved awards.”

“ISSA wants to thank and recognize Rep. Spanberger for sponsoring the ISSA supported bipartisan, bicameral Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act (HR 1477/S 722) which would help professionals get trained and certified. We also want to recognize her commitment to creating legal paths for employers to access more employees as this issue is vitally important to not only the cleaning industry but the U.S. economy, national security, and public health,” said ISSA Director of Government Affairs John Nothdurft.

“I’m honored to receive the Outstanding Government Service Award from ISSA. In Congress, I am proud to lead bipartisan legislation to help Virginians and Americans across the country pay for the credentialing and licensing programs that will set them apart in their careers,” said Spanberger. “Workers need access to the training programs that will help them succeed, and employers need access to workers with the skills to thrive in their jobs. I will continue to work in Congress to make sure the cleaning industry can thrive in today’s economy and workers can be connected to certification programs.  I want to extend my appreciation to all those who help keep our schools, places of business, hotels, hospitals, and communities healthy.”

“ISSA is proud to recognize Gov. Cox for his outstanding government service on behalf of the cleaning industry,” said Nothdurft. “His leadership as chairman of the National Governors Association and his efforts to reduce polarization should be lauded. We also want to recognize him because Utah was one of the first states in the nation to unanimously support making free period products available in all K-12 school bathrooms as well as in all state buildings showing that the issue of tackling period poverty is an apolitical one.”

“While I appreciate being recognized for this award, I want to recognize and thank the manufacturers of cleaning-related products, distributors, and the cleaning service workers in Utah and throughout the rest of the country,” said Cox. “Your dedication to healthy and safe workplaces ensures that we all have clean and sanitary environments in our workplaces, schools, and homes.”

The 2024 ISSA Outstanding Government Service Awards were presented as part of the association’s Clean Advocacy Summit that took place in Washington, D.C., April 10-11.
