OSHA Launches Nursing Home Safety Program

April 9, 2012 — The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched a new National Emphasis Program for nursing and residential care facilities.

The new program will provide guidance on conducting inspections specifically focused on the hazards found in nursing and residential care settings. These hazards include exposure to blood and other potentially infectious material, exposure to communicable diseases, ergonomic stressors related to lifting patients, workplace violence, and slip-and-fall accidents.
