Baltimore Tops Orkin’s List of Bed Bug Cities

For the first time, Baltimore, MD, has taken the top spot in Orkin Pest Control’s Top 50 Bed Bug Cities list for 2016, knocking Chicago, IL, down a peg from last year’s list.

Orkin’s 2016 list came from the number of bedbug treatments the company provided from December 1, 2015-November 30, 2016. However, just because certain cities didn’t make the list, maintenance professionals in those cities may still be familiar with the pests.

According to the “Bugs Without Borders 2015 Survey,” by the National Pest Management Association, 99.6 percent of pest control professionals have dealt with bed bugs, an increase from five years ago.

Orkin reports having bed bugs is not a sign of an unclean building. Bedbugs can travel to different locations via a building occupant’s belongings and can be easily found in public facilities, such as movie theaters, hotels, libraries, schools, and office buildings.
