The Alf de Ruvo Memorial Foundation has awarded its 2016 Alf de Ruvo scholarship to German microbiologist Susanne Sütterlin.
The Alf de Ruvo Memorial Foundation awards scholarships to researchers within the sphere of cellulose-fiber-based materials. The foundation was formed in 2000 with funds donated in memory of Alf de Ruvo (1938-2000), licentiate of engineering and executive vice president of SCA.
The foundation presented the scholarship to Sütterlin at a ceremony hosted January 26 in Stockholm, Sweden, in conjunction with the Swedish Pulp and Paper Industry’s Ekman Days.
Sütterlin, who currently works at Uppsala University Hospital in Uppsala, Sweden, was recognized for her research on improving antimicrobial and biocidal resistance in hygiene products.
Sütterlin plans to use the scholarship, valued at US$58,000, to continue her research at the University of Oxford in Oxford, England.
