Pursuant to an Executive Order issued by President Barack Obama, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is implementing the Federal Strategic Sourcing Initiative (FSSI) to drive financial savings related to government procurement by consolidating its purchasing power to extract the lowest prices possible. GSA is responsible for implementing FSSI across ten major industry sectors over a two year period. It has recently done so in the office products arena with devastating economic results.
At the present, GSA is focused on the jansan sector—products and supplies, as well as commercial cleaning services. GSA is proposing to proceed in jansan in a manner similar to that which it used in the office products sector and we expect similar negative economic consequences.
GSA is approaching the jansan industry in three phases:
- Jansan Purchasing RFQ
- Jansan Requisition RFQ
- Jansan BMO (Cleaning Services) RFQ
