What’s ahead in 2020 & 2019 Year in Review

2019 was a successful year for ISSA’s expanding advocacy efforts and 2020 is poised to be even better as we continue to roll-out more education, advocacy tools, events, updates, and opportunities to engage policymakers for our members. We are most excited about hosting the first Clean Advocacy Summit taking place on March 25-26 in Washington, D.C. This event is the perfect opportunity for you to get the latest legislative, regulatory, and political information impacting the cleaning industry. You will also get the chance to “hike the hill” and meet in person with U.S. Congressional offices to discuss the issues impacting the cleaning industry.

In year one of ISSA’s expanding advocacy efforts, the primary goal was to build a strong sustainable foundation. This was done by gathering member feedback; evaluating and setting priority issues; educating members about advocacy; identifying and engaging allies; drafting issue advocacy materials; launching bill track and grassroots advocacy tools; and by educating policymakers and the public about the importance of the cleaning industry.

Some of these efforts are visible on ISSA.com, like our weekly advocacy roundup, the complete overhaul of our advocacy web portal, and the launching of our ISSA Action Center while other progress is behind the scenes laying the foundation for our advocacy efforts moving forward.

In 2019, ISSA was involved in many advocacy successes this year including the reauthorization of the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA 4), being cited in final overtime rules, criminal justice reforms such as the “First Step Act”, preventing well-intentioned but onerous plastic packaging regulations in California just to name a few. ISSA has also been active and seen progress on issues such as Tariffs, the United States-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement (USMCA), and custodial worker harassment legislation at the state level.

As always, please contact me if you have any questions regarding our advocacy efforts.

Happy New Years!
