October 17, 2018 3M Announces Winner of 2018 Young Scientist Challenge

3M has named Rishab Jain from Portland, OR, the winner of its 2018 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

The 11th-annual contest, a partnership between 3M and Discovery Education, called for students in grades 5-8 to submit a two-minute video demonstrating an innovation that could provide a solution to an everyday problem. A panel of judges then selected 10 finalists who will then be paired with a 3M scientist to create an invention that solves the problem they identified.

Jain developed an algorithm to make pancreatic cancer treatment more effective through the use of artificial intelligence. As the winning entry, he will receive US$25,000 along with the opportunity to attend the taping of a Discovery Network TV show.
