October 31, 2019 3M Reveals Winner of 2019 Young Scientist Challenge

3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, has named Kara Fan from San Diego, the winner of its 2019 Young Scientist Challenge.

The 12th annual contest, a partnership between 3M and Discovery Education, called for students in grades 5-8 to submit a video demonstrating the science behind a possible solution to a common problem. A panel of judges then selected 10 finalists who were paired with a 3M scientist to create an invention that solves the problem they identified.

Jain developed a first aid liquid bandage using nano-silver technology to reduce the risk of superbug infections caused by antibiotic overuse. As the winning entry, she will receive US$25,000 along with a surprise destination trip.
