China Increases Number of LEED Projects

hina currently has a total of 1,207 building projects certified by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), according to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Mainland China has 1,013 LEED-certified commercial projects, while Hong Kong has 139, with four more in Macao. The addition of LEED residential and LEED for Neighborhood Development certified projects brings the total to 1,207.

Consumer demand is a driving force for the green building market for countries like China and is set to increase by US$234 billion by 2019, according to a Dodge Data & Analytics World Green Building Trends 2016 SmartMarket Report.

The USGBC also recently announced their upcoming Greenbuild Conference will be hosted for the first time in China, on October 17-18 in Shanghai.
