Cleaning Product Supplies Impacted by Chinese Factory Closures

January 17, 2018

Recent shutdowns of Chinese factories due to pollution have affected the price and availability of some cleaning supplies, according to an article by Waxie Sanitary Supply.

The factory shutdowns are due to government mandates to convert factories from operating on coal to natural gas. An estimated 40 percent of Chinese factories have been shut down after failing environmental inspections.

As the cleaning industry relies on many Chinese-made products, the factory closures have resulted in missed shipments and delivery delays, as well as price increases. The pricing of paper toilet seat covers has increased about 25 percent, as they are produced in factories that have traditionally used coal power. Other cleaning items made by coal-powered factories in China are disposable gloves and microfiber.
