Deadly Listeria Outbreak Strikes South Africa

December 6, 2017

South African Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi has issued a warning about a deadly outbreak of listeria in the country.

More than 550 cases of listeria have been reported in South Africa in the past 11 months, including 36 fatalities. Motsoaledi stated that the health department is investigating the source of the outbreak and officials believe it is likely linked to a food product widely distributed throughout the country. The health minister urged South Africans to practice proper hand hygiene and food safety protocols to limit the further spread of the outbreak, The Times reports.
