GP PRO Survey Finds Travelers Concerned Over Hotel Cleanliness

October 19, 2020

Cleaning and disinfecting regimes at hotel facilities have increased due to the coronavirus pandemic, especially in public areas and guest rooms. However, travelers still have safety concerns about staying at hotels. A recent Georgia-Pacific Professional (GP PRO) traveler survey offers suggestions for hotel housekeepers.

Among 623 consumers surveyed who frequented hotels prior to COVID-19, 60% are concerned about staying in a hotel during the pandemic. Most (80%) said they would want housekeepers to provide “individually wrapped disposable coffee cups and lids in their guest room.” The majority of survey respondents (72%) also said they would want assurance that housekeepers had cleaned and disinfected high-touch surfaces, such as toilet handles and door knobs, through signage left in their room explaining new hotel cleaning practices.

“Consumers do want assurances that they’ll be safe in environments they can’t control, said Michelle Auda, senior director of insights with GP PRO. “Advanced hygiene practices keep the traveling public safe; empathy helps them feel safe.”
