IEC Issues New Standard for Automatic/Robotic Floor Cleaning Machines

June 2, 2021

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has issued a new safety standard for floor machines.

The IEC is an international safety committee that counts many members of the technical committee of the American Association of Cleaning Equipment Manufacturers (AACEM), a Division of ISSA, as participants. IEC’s new standard—IEC 63327:2021—deals with the safety of powered automatic (commonly called “robotic”) floor treatment machines intended for indoor commercial use. The standard details such applications as sweeping, scrubbing, shampooing, polishing, and more. The IEC-63327 standard includes coverage of the driverless portion of operation of a cleaning machine in conjunction with other safety standards such as IEC 60335-2-72 for floor scrubbers.

For more information or to purchase this standard, visit the IEC webstore or the IEC SC 61J committee page.
