IICRC to Develop New Fire and Smoke Damage Standards

The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is now accepting volunteers to serve on a consensus body for the development of three new fire and smoke damage restoration standards.
BSR/IICRC S700 Standard for Professional Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration will outline practical standards for the restoration of fire- and smoke-damaged structural materials. BSR/IICRC S710 Standard for the Development of a Scope of Work in a Fire and Smoke Damaged Environment will detail the measures required for developing a scope of work. BSR/IICRC S740 Standard for Professional Restoration of Fire and Smoke Damaged Personal Items will cover the restoration of fire- and smoke-damaged porous and nonporous personal items.
The IICRC expects to begin work on the three standards in the next few months, with a proposed completion timeline of approximately two years. Cleaning-industry professionals interested in volunteering for the standard’s consensus body can download application forms from the IICRC’s website.
