Legionnaires’ Outbreak Strikes Disneyland

November 13, 2017

Disneyland officials have shut down two cooling towers following an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease among visitors to the Anaheim, CA, theme park. The cooling towers had elevated levels of Legionella bacteria and have been treated with chemicals to kill the bacteria, CNN reports.

Nine people who visited Disneyland in September developed Legionnaires’ disease. An additional three people who had been to Anaheim, but not Disneyland, also contracted the disease. Ten of the people were hospitalized and one, who had additional health issues, died.

The cooling towers remain out of service.
