Measles Outbreak Strikes NY County
March 26, 2019Rockland County, NY, has declared a county wide state of emergency due to an outbreak of measles.
According to the Rockland County Health Department, more than 150 cases of measles have been reported in the county since January 1. Eighty-two percent of the infected individuals did not receive the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine, Fox News reports.
The state of emergency would bar minors who have not received the MMR vaccine from entering a public facility for the next 30 days, beginning March 27. The county health department is offering free MMR vaccinations to all residents.
Custodial teams in the area should take extra cleaning and disinfection precautions, particularly when dealing with high-traffic facilities or high-touch areas.
