OSHA Helps Keep Workers Safe + Sound

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is encouraging employers to observe Safe + Sound Week, August 9-15, to show their commitment to workplace safety.

Safe + Sound Week is a nationwide event that recognizes the successes of workplace safety and health programs and offers information on how to keep America’s workers safe.

“Each year, millions of workers suffer job-related injuries or illnesses, and thousands die in work-related incidents,” said Acting Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health James Frederick. “Effective safety and health programs save lives and prevent injuries. They also help businesses improve safety and health compliance and avoid the many costs associated with workplace safety and health incidents.”

In 2020, more than 3,400 businesses participated in the event. Employers can visit the Safe + Sound website to sign up to participate and check out the listed activities, graphics, and other resources available to help them protect workers. Participants can watch a free webinar detailing the core elements of an effective workplace health and safety program and download a checklist with 10 ways to get their own program started. When organizations have completed their events, they can download a certificate to recognize their business.
