OSHA to Hold Informal Hearing on Hazard Communication Standard

May 24, 2021 OSHA to Hold Informal Hearing on Hazard Communication Standard

The U.S. Department of Labor announced the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has scheduled an informal hearing on the agency’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) for September 21.

OSHA’s hearing will be hosted virtually via WebEx and is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. EDT. If necessary, hearings will continue from 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. EDT on subsequent days. The agency anticipates the HCS will be updated to reduce the incidence of chemical-related occupational illnesses and injuries. OSHA expects to further improve labeling and safety data sheets for hazardous chemicals. Other proposed modifications to the HCS include improving alignment with other federal agencies and Canada.

Individuals interested in participating in the hearing must submit a notice of intent to appear by June 18. For more information and to submit a notice, visit OSHA’s website.
