P&G Shoots for the Stars With NASA

June 22, 2021

Procter & Gamble (P&G), parent company of Procter & Gamble Professional (P&G PRO), has signed a Space Act Agreement with NASA.

The agreement calls for NASA to test and utilize cleaning solutions developed by P&G’s Tide® detergent line onboard the International Space Station (ISS). The first cargo launch to the ISS, named Mission P&G Telescience Investigation of Detergent Experiments (PGTide), is scheduled for 2022 and will deliver detergent solutions to the ISS. Astronauts and scientists onboard the ISS will test the stability of cleaning ingredients under microgravity conditions and exposure to the radiation levels experienced in space. Other planned experiments will explore the success of stain removal ingredients in space.

“This partnership was created to rethink cleaning solutions—forcing us to rethink innovations for resource-constrained and challenging environments like the ISS, deep space, and even the future of our home planet,” said Aga Orlik, P&G senior vice president of North America fabric care. “We are eager to apply our learnings from our partnerships with NASA and the ISS National Lab to Tide on Earth, developing a low-resource-use laundry solution for everyday use while meeting consumer demand for more sustainable products.”
