Salmonella Outbreak Sparks Melon Recall

June 11, 2018

Caito Foods LLC has issued a voluntary recall for its pre-sliced watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, and mixed fruit medley due to possible salmonella contamination.

Caito Foods issued the recall after U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) officials confirmed that 60 individuals in five states were diagnosed with salmonella and 31 were hospitalized due to the tainted fruit. The fruit was packaged at Caito Foods’ Indianapolis, IN, facility and distributed to wholesalers and retailers in eight states. Caito Foods is working with the CDC to determine the source of the bacteria, CNN reports.
