January 29, 2020

Hundreds of Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1 members participated in a rally and march in St. Louis, Missouri, earlier this week.

The union represents more than 2,100 custodians and building service contractors who clean and maintain facilities throughout downtown St. Louis who are seeking to raise the minimum wage to US$15. According to SEIU, average hourly wage for a janitor in the union is less than $11. St. Louis police arrested 17 protesters for impeding traffic during the march, KSDK-TV reports. The union plans to continue negotiations with local contractors later this week.
