Unilever Forms Partnership to Promote Self-Cleaning Technology

Unilever Plc has joined with Innova Partnerships to form a joint venture biotechnology company, Penrhos Bio, to commercialize a self-cleaning technology for surfaces using seaweed.

Unilever has been researching an organic compound called Lactam, which can prevent or block the formation of mold on surfaces. The patented technology is derived from natural chemicals in seaweed. 

Through Penhros Bio, Unilever believes it can bring the self-cleaning surface technology to cleaning products and revolutionize the global cleaning industry.
