Federal Court Delays Revised Overtime Rules

November 28, 2016 << Back to News

Judge Amos L. Mazzant of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas has issued a temporary nationwide injunction on the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) final revisions to the overtime regulations of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

The DOL’s revisions, which were announced in May, were scheduled to go into effect December 1. The updated regulations were set to impact more than 4 million workers nationwide by increasing the minimum salary threshold—the amount of money an employee can make before becoming exempt from overtime pay–from the current rate of US$455 per week to $913 per week.

Judge Mazzant’s injunction prevents enforcement of the DOL’s rule changes until a countermanding order from an appeals court is approved, Forbes reports
