Hotel Workers in Las Vegas Push for Panic Buttons

The union representing more than 14,000 hotel housekeepers in Las Vegas, NV, will request panic buttons for each housekeeper as it begins negotiating new contracts, The New York Post reports.

Contracts for members of the Culinary Workers Union, which includes housekeepers, cooks, bartenders, and food and cocktail servers, will expire May 31. Union leaders say they want the same protections recently provided to housekeepers in Chicago, IL; Seattle, WA; and New York, NY.

The union also is negotiating to protect existing benefits, increase wages, protect job security against the increasing adoption of technology at hotel-casinos, and strengthen language against sexual harassment.
