Norovirus Outbreak Strikes Cruise Ship

December 8, 2017

Health officials have reported nearly 200 cases of norovirus aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

Cruise line officials stated 195 passengers and crew members onboard the MS Ovation of the Seas contracted the gastrointestinal illness during the two-week cruise from Singapore to Hobart, Australia. The infected individuals were given over the counter medication while the ship’s crew tried to limit the spread of the disease by continually sanitizing high-touch surfaces. Royal Caribbean reports the ship is scheduled to dock in Sydney, Australia, later this week, at which point it will undergo a thorough cleaning and decontamination, The Independent reports.
