Norovirus Shuts Down School in Indiana

December 10, 2018

Following stringent cleaning and disinfection procedures in schools can not only help keep students healthier, it can help keep schools open.

Janitorial staff at Covington Elementary School in Covington, IN, spent today cleaning and disinfecting the building after the school was closed due to a high rate of student absenteeism due to viral gastroenteritis, Wane.com repots.

The school had 197 absences last week, many due to the virus. As the absentee rate had reached 20 percent of the school enrollment by Friday, officials decided to close the school on Monday as a precaution. They are hopeful the school’s thorough cleaning and disinfection will help reduce the number of student absentees this week.
