ISSA Reps. Smucker and Gluesenkamp Perez Awards for Outstanding Government Service

ISSA is proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 ISSA Outstanding Government Service Awards presented in conjunction with the association’s Clean Advocacy Summit. The award recipients were selected by ISSA with input from its Government Affairs Advisory Committee.

The recipients of this year’s awards are U.S. Representative’s Lloyd Smucker (R-PA-11) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA-3). “ISSA thanks Representatives Smucker Perez for their outstanding government service,” said ISSA Executive Director John Barrett. “On behalf of the more than 12,000 ISSA members, we congratulate them on their well-deserved awards.”

“ISSA is proud to recognize Rep. Smucker for his leadership in sponsoring the H.R.3734 – Essential Workers for Economic Advancement Act which would create a year-round temporary visa program as well as H.R.6833 – Improve and Enhance the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Act. The cleaning industry is a very labor-intensive industry and as such we want to thank you for your leadership recognizing the importance of creating paths for employers to access more essential employees. We want to thank him for being a strong supporter of small businesses,” said John Nothdurft, ISSA’s Director of Government Affairs.

“I am humbled to have been named a recipient of ISSA’s 2025 Outstanding Government Service Award. I deeply appreciate the work ISSA does to support a sector that is vital to public health, to the economy, and to the dignity of work. I remain committed to advancing policies to strengthen America’s small businesses and workforce,” said Congressman Smucker.

“ISSA is proud to recognize Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez for his outstanding government service on behalf of the cleaning industry. Her leadership supporting common sense legislation like the WIPPES Act (HR 2964/S 1350) that would create a “Do Not Flush” labeling requirement for non-flushable wipes packaging and the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act (HR 1477/S 722) that would help professionals get training and certifications,” said John Nothdurft, ISSA’s Director of Government Affairs.

“Across Southwest Washington, we’re grateful for the grit and skill of folks who keep our spaces clean — and we need to support their hard work. We also should be looking for avenues to use more paper products from our woods in the cleaning industry,” said Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez. “I’ve visited our local wastewater treatment plants and seen firsthand the challenges of handling wipes being flushed downstream. I’m fighting in Congress for wipes to be clearly labeled as non-flushable to protect our wastewater infrastructure and support the work of our public works departments. I’m grateful for this recognition, and will continue fighting for common sense, bipartisan solutions.”

The 2025 ISSA Outstanding Government Service Awards were presented as part of the association’s Clean Advocacy Summit that took place in Washington, D.C., March 31 – April 1.
