State & Federal VOC Limits
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and numerous state governments regulate the content of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in consumer, institutional, and industrial products including various cleaning products. VOC content in these products is regulated because VOCs photochemically react to form ozone in the lower atmosphere, which is a serious health hazard particularly with regards to children and the elderly. The information below provides members with a summary of the VOC limitations across the United States as well as an overview of the state prohibitions on specific toxic substances in specified product categories.
