Building on Success
Let’s work together to engage young professionals.
As I step into my role as president of ISSA, I can’t help but reflect on the journey that has led me here. For more than 30 years, I’ve worked in various facets of the cleaning industry, from manufacturing and distribution to cleaning contracting. I have seen firsthand the challenges and rewards of running an operation.
What I find so exciting about our industry is how deeply interconnected all the moving parts are. I’ve worked across nearly every segment of the supply chain, which gives me a unique perspective on how we can work together to elevate the entire sector.
My turn to give back
At this stage in my professional journey, I am driven to give back to the industry that has given so much to me. My professional journey has been intertwined with ISSA for many years. I was involved with the Young Executives Society (YES) and served on the ISSA board of directors. With my children now grown and stepping into their own lives, I can devote more time to serving the association.
One of the things I’m passionate about is increasing the involvement of the younger generations. With the invaluable guidance of mentors like Linda Silverman, the second female president in ISSA’s history, my career grew. I’m committed to creating opportunities to engage younger professionals, just as I was once encouraged by those who came before me.
The introduction of the Emerging Leaders program is a step in the right direction, and I hope we can expand this initiative to include more young people.
The future of our industry
ISSA’s role in this industry is vital, but we still have work to do to make sure people understand the full scope of what we offer. Our work has been behind the scenes for too long, but the pandemic gave us a rare moment to shine, with cleaning professionals recognized as essential workers. My goal is to keep that momentum going, helping the world see our value—not just during times of crisis but every day.
I want to build on the accomplishments of those who have come before me. Exceptional leaders have shaped ISSA, and it’s an honor to follow in their footsteps. My goal isn’t to reinvent the wheel but to continue evolving the association in ways that support every facet of our diverse membership. Together, we can drive innovation and advancement across the industry.
The cleaning industry has never been more essential, but we must keep the conversation going and ensure our work won’t be taken for granted. We can’t afford to “race to the bottom” on pricing, and we must find ways to elevate each other by lifting the entire industry. Rising tides lift all boats, and this mentality will serve us well as we continue to move forward.
Lastly, beyond my professional life, I enjoy hiking, cooking, and spending time with my family—especially my large, sweet dog, Tom Hanks (yes, named after the actor). And while it may surprise some, I’m also a lifelong Dungeons and Dragons player. My childhood love of the game has evolved into a fun online hobby with old friends, including a surgeon, a lawyer, and a state senate staffer! The teamwork and collaboration we foster in that world are traits I take into my leadership role.
It’s an exciting time to be in this industry, and I’m honored to lead ISSA into the future, working alongside such a talented and dedicated community.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve this amazing association and continue driving our collective success.
