The onset of the current pandemic challenged best practices for cleaning and disinfecting. ISSA followed the need of the industry to go back to the basics and offered two editions of the ISSA Foundation Course: A Practical Guide to Cleaning and Disinfecting.

During this session participants from all over the world covered fundamentals in cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting processes and how they can be applied to mitigate the impact of COVID-19. Dennis Goodwin, ISSA’s business development manager for the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Middle East, led this virtual two-hour refresher course. ISSA members can watch the recording in the ISSA TV Videos library at https://www.issa.com/issa-tv/channel/webinars.

FM position paper: Make a clean start

As you, your business, and clients start to return to the workplace and adapt to the “new normal,” confidence cleaning is paramount for the next phase of COVID-19 recovery. Along with this goes the implementation of proper risk assessment when determining the cleaning regime of a site.

Unfortunately, we are still seeing a gap in the implementation of best practices. To help fill that gap, ISSA and its division, the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), have released a position paper entitled Ensuring Your Facility Makes a Clean Start. The paper can be downloaded for free at issa.com/confidenceclean.

A cleaning standard prepares for a changing world

Disruption often brings opportunities. The current global pandemic offers cleaning companies a crucial moment to reflect and examine their operations. As CIMS–ISSA’s Cleaning Industry Management Standard–is the foundation to achieving a more robust business model, cleaning contractors and in-house service providers from Europe, Middle East, and Africa joined the virtual training course to learn more about the standard.

The Fundamentals of CIMS course was delivered virtually by Lynn Webster who introduced the knowledge and expertise required for a cleaning organization to make measurable improvements in quality and operational efficiency. As a first step towards the CIMS certification, attendees had the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of the systems, procedures, and processes along with management best practices required to lead a quality-driven cleaning business. The course addressed the six areas of the global standard, including quality systems, service delivery, human resources, health, safety and environment, management principles, and green cleaning.

Estimating and bidding for success

Being able to match facility requirements with the right cleaning systems and to determine which resources are needed to maintain a facility is fundamental–now more than ever before. Therefore, ISSA decided to turn the Estimating and Bidding course into a virtual training course.

During the half-day course, participants examined the defined systems of cost for cleaning services and which systems are best suited for various facility types. The course was live and delivered virtually via GoToWebinar, by ISSA trainer Tommy Taylor.

Additionally, Jill Kegler, director of business development at Double A Solutions, introduced the newly enhanced ISSA Workloading and Bidding Tool. The tool with metric conversion helps ISSA members build out a location or cleaning project by entering room type, area (in either square meters or square feet), and the activities to perform.
