3M Announces Finalists for 2021 Young Scientist Contest

3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, has announced the 10 finalists in the 2021 Young Scientist Challenge.

The annual contest, now in its 14th year, called for students in grades 5-8 to submit a video demonstrating an innovation that could provide a solution to an everyday problem. A panel of judges selected 10 finalists, 30 State Merit Winners, and four honorable mentions from a pool of hundreds of submissions.

All 10 finalists will receive US$1,000 and the opportunity to be mentored virtually by a 3M scientist to develop a prototype of their invention. The winning student announced in October will be crowned “America’s Top Young Scientist” and receive the $25,000 grand prize.
