4M Building Solutions Acquires Calvary Building Services in Grand Rapids

4M Building Solutions, a leader in commercial cleaning and janitorial services, announced today that it has acquired Calvary Building Services, a respected provider of commercial and post-construction cleaning services in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The acquisition expands 4M’s presence into Michigan’s second-largest city and the broader West Michigan region. 4M entered the Michigan market in July 2024 with the purchase of Hi-Tec Building Services, a full-service building maintenance and custodial services company headquartered in Jenison, just west of Grand Rapids and part of its greater metropolitan area, with operations spanning the state.

Calvary Building Services was founded by Matt Joyce in 2017. At the time, Joyce brought nearly 12 years of industry experience under his belt, including launching a successful janitorial division for a local flooring contractor. Driven by a desire to build something of his own, he leveraged that expertise to start Calvary from the ground up. Today, the company is a trusted local provider specializing in office cleaning, deep and post‑construction cleaning, carpet and upholstery care, and window cleaning. Calvary serves clients across Kent County and Central Michigan.

“Calvary Building Services is a values-driven company with a dedication to quality, reliability, and customer care,” said Tim Murch, CBSE, CEO and Managing Partner of 4M Building Solutions. “With their strong presence in Grand Rapids, a firm commitment to health and safety, and a hands-on service model, they’re a natural fit with 4M’s mission. We’re thrilled to welcome their clients and Team Members as we continue our Midwest growth.”

Joyce, a Grand Valley State University alumnus and longtime West Michigan professional, built Calvary’s mission around improving health and safety in community spaces. The company serves sectors such as education, healthcare, municipalities, and professional services. In recent years, Calvary has earned a strong reputation for post-construction cleanup and detailing, a niche service with growing demand.

Calvary’s present roster of 79 frontline Team Members will transition to 4M, ensuring continuity of service and expanded support for a client roster of more than 40. Calvary’s Grand Rapids office will close and move to 4M’s existing office space in Jenison, 6578 Roger Dr.

“I wanted to create something meaningful, and I couldn’t be prouder of what the Calvary Team has accomplished in a relatively short eight years,” said Joyce, Calvary’s president and owner. “Stepping away from something you’ve loved and built alongside your team and clients is never easy, but I’m excited about the opportunity we’re creating. Many of my clients have facilities outside my service area that I’ll be able to support with 4M’s added infrastructure. And the larger organization will open incredible opportunities for my team.

“4M understood my vision and worked closely with me to meet those needs,“ Joyce added.

Joyce will join 4M in a Grand Rapids-area leadership role, ensuring continuity for both clients and team members.

This acquisition is 4M Building Solutions’ 39th acquisition since its founding in 1978 and underscores its continued strategic expansion. It follows a significant investment in 2023 from O2 Investment Partners, a Midwest-based private equity firm focused on value-driven growth.
