ISSA and 200+ Businesses Unite to Support EPA’s Safer Choice Program
A coalition of over 200 businesses and industry groups, including ISSA, the Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association has rallied to express their strong support for the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice program. This voluntary certification program, which labels cleaning products meeting stringent health and environmental standards, is seen by businesses as a vital tool for communicating product safety to consumers and workers.
The coalition, led by prominent organizations like ISSA, the Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA), the Alternative Fuels & Chemicals Coalition (AFCC), the American Cleaning Institute (ACI), the American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN), Change Chemistry, and the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility (ICCR), sent a coalition letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, highlighting the Safer Choice program’s numerous benefits.
These benefits include:
- Incentivizing Innovation: Safer Choice encourages companies to develop innovative products that meet high safety standards.
- Promoting Safer Chemistry: The program drives the adoption of safer chemical ingredients in cleaning products.
- Supporting Safety Efforts: Safer Choice complements federal, state, and retailer initiatives to enhance product safety.
- Effective Communication: The Safer Choice label provides businesses with a clear and trusted way to communicate product safety to both consumers and workers.
The coalition letter emphasizes the program’s crucial role in meeting the growing consumer and worker demand for ingredient transparency and safer products. It respectfully calls on the EPA to maintain the program’s integrity and ensure its continued success.
“ISSA has long been a strong supporter of the EPA’s Safer Choice program,” says MechĂ© C. Ragland, ISSA Regulatory Affairs Manager. “We recognize the program’s value in driving innovation, promoting safer chemistry, and empowering consumers and businesses to make informed choices. We are proud to stand alongside our industry partners in advocating for the continued strength and effectiveness of this important initiative.”
This unified show of support underscores the business community’s commitment to safer products and demonstrates the Safer Choice program’s vital role in achieving that goal. It reinforces the program’s importance as a resource for companies seeking to meet the evolving demands of a marketplace prioritizing health, safety, and sustainability.
