Universal Bathroom Cleaner Challenge Brief

Universal Bathroom Cleaner Challenge Brief

  1. What we’re looking for

We aim to make bathroom cleaning easier and simpler, so we want a cleaning agent that can do it all!

We’re looking for one product that can remove all stains and odors in the bathroom. Conventional cleaners usually tackle different jobs with different formulas: mold stains and mildew typically demand different cleaning agents from organic matter and hard water stains found in the toilet or sink.

  2. Why this challenge matters

Unlocking a universal stain removal and cleaning agent will provide a superior cleaning experience for our consumers, and delivering the best product to our consumers is always our end goal. We want to be the superior and only choice for those who truly want one product to clean the entire bathroom. One product means less time, less storage, less stress!

  3. What’s our success criteria

By the end of this collaboration, we’re looking for a technology or product in the advanced stages of product development.

The proposed technology or ingredient must be:

    • A mature technology of a single compound or a mixture of compounds
    • Compatible with an acid-based formulation (e.g. approximately pH 2)
    • Compatible with both anionic and non-ionic surfactants
    • Able to remove black mold stains, mildew, hard water stains, rust, soap scum, and organic matter stains (including fecal soils)

We prefer that the proposed technology or ingredient also:

    • Is an effective disinfectant
    • Contains thoroughly characterized chemistry by the conclusion of this collaboration to support a listed range of additional ingredients, e.g. compatible fragrance and dye options

We’re open to approaches originating from both industry and academia. In your proposal, please indicate how you prefer to engage with us. Reckitt will work with selected respondents to determine the optimal relationship for both parties.

  4. What’s out of scope

    • Bleach and other high pH agents
    • Substances banned by any governmental authority
    • Products without scientific data to support performance claims
    • Chemicals deemed to be toxic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, teratogenic, corrosive or harmful for the environment
  5. What we can offer you

We can offer access to a broad range of capabilities and expertise, including testing materials and facilities to demonstrate the appropriateness of the proposed solution.

It is our intention to establish positive and fruitful partnerships with experts and organizations that will lead to disruptive innovations to improve the lives of consumers, contributing to a healthier and cleaner world.
