3M Launches Young Scientist Alumni Network and Grants Program

January 20, 2023 3M Launches Young Scientist Alumni Network and Grants Program

3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, has announced the launch of the Young Scientist Challenge Alumni Network and Alumni Grants Program.

3M and Discovery Education will work together to support past participants of the annual 3M Young Scientist Challenge. Now in its 16th year, the annual competition calls for middle school students to submit a video demonstrating an innovation that could provide a solution to an everyday problem, with the finalists participating in a summer mentorship program with 3M scientists.

The Alumni Network and Alumni Grants Program will award a total of $25,000 in grant money to 10 different alumni annually. Former finalists must be a registered member of the 3M Young Scientist Alumni Network to apply. In addition, the initiative will provide prior participants with networking opportunities and other resources.

“For 16 years, alongside Discovery Education, we’ve brought science to life through the 3M Young Scientist Challenge,” said Karina Chavez, 3M senior vice president and chief strategy officer. “By participating in the 3M Young Scientist Challenge, hundreds of students have been inspired to create world-changing innovations. The Alumni Network and Grants Program are a way to continue supporting and celebrating these tremendous young people that represent the future of science.”
