3M Starts Search for America’s Top Young Scientist

January 16, 2024 3M Starts Search for America’s Top Young Scientist

3M, in partnership with Discovery Education, has launched the 2023 3M Young Scientist Challenge.

The 17th-annual middle school competition calls for students in grades 5–8 to submit a video demonstrating an innovation that could provide a solution to an everyday problem. A panel of judges will select 10 finalists in June.

The finalists will participate in an exclusive summer mentorship program with the company’s scientists. Each finalist will then compete in the final event at the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, during an interactive competition comprised of hands-on challenges, presentations, live judging, and more. During the final event, October 14–15, 2024, the grand prize winner will be announced. The winning student will be crowned “America’s Top Young Scientist” and receive the US$25,000 grand prize.

“The 3M Young Scientist Challenge encourages young people to solve everyday problems using science and innovation—and we can’t wait to see what you dream up!” said Torie Clark, 3M chief public affairs officer.
