ABM Helps Virginia School District Reduce Energy Costs

July 14, 2022 ABM Helps Virginia School District Reduce Energy Costs

ABM has secured an energy performance contract with the Fredericksburg City Public Schools (FCPS) in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The contract calls for ABM to upgrade five school district facilities with energy-efficient HVAC systems, LED lighting, upgraded building controls, and water conservation enhancements. ABM will also assist FCPS in procuring a grant through the Clean School Bus Program for the purchase of 10 electrical school buses.

“As the city’s largest single consumer of electricity, diesel fuel, and natural gas, the school district’s reduced energy use greatly impacts the community’s decarbonization goals,” said Mark Hawkinson, president of ABM’s technical solutions division. “Our project creates that savings while helping Fredericksburg protect air quality and provide engaging learning environments for students across the district.”

Based on current energy prices, the deal is expected to reduce the facilities’ energy consumption and save the county more than US$3.1 million in energy and operating costs during the next 15 years. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
