Canada Ensures Workplace Access to Menstrual Products

May 12, 2023

Canadian Minister of Labour Seamus O’Regan Jr. announced that as of December 15, 2023, all federally regulated employers in Canada will be required to make menstrual products available to employees at no cost while they are in the workplace.

According to a government press release, the initiative is inclusive of all workers who menstruate and will directly impact nearly 500,000 workers across Canada. The new regulations are part of an update the Canada Labour Code and are meant to provide employers with flexibility in how they implement these changes in their workplace. Guidance material will be developed in consultation with employers and made available online prior to the enforcement date.

“Tampons and pads are basic necessities. So, we’re making sure they’re provided to workers at no cost, because it’ll make for healthier and safer workplaces,” said Minister O’Regan.
