GBAC Director Discusses Summer Travel & Pandemic Aftermath

May 18, 2022 GBAC Director Discusses Summer Travel & Pandemic Aftermath

The COVID-19 pandemic affected every aspect of our society from cleaning and wholesale distribution all the way to travel and family dynamics. What was once considered a simple and relatively carefree event such as dining out or taking a family summer vacation has now developed into a series of questions and concerns. These questions range from the cleanliness of our travel destinations and the risks involved in visiting them to the ventilation of the buildings we enter and whether immunocompromised individuals will be present.

In this latest ISSA Cleaning Industry Alert, Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, senior director of the Global Biorisk Advisory Council® (GBAC), a Division of ISSA, chats with ISSA Media Director Jeff Cross on the latest developments in home testing and the impact of the ongoing pandemic on summer vacations.

The pair discuss the Lucira COVID-19 All-In-One Test Kit, which was recently received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to provide accurate self-administered testing for numerous respiratory illnesses including COVID-19, Influenza A and B, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The U.S. government has also opened its website for a third round of free COVID-19 test kit orders at CovidTests.gov, with an additional eight tests per household now available.

Summer travel was one of the final topics addressed in this Cleaning Industry Alert. With the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updating its guide for interstate travel recently, it’s important that families and companies pay close attention to these updates before planning any business trips or summer vacations.
