Medline Dispatcher Honored for Bravery

Dwayne Hingos recently received a commendation for exceptional bravery and composure from the city commission of Auburndale, Florida.

Last October, Hingos, a dispatcher for Medline Industries Inc., was taking a break outside the company’s facilities when he saw a car drive into a nearby alligator-infested retention pond. The driver, Tamara Huber-Lucas, had lost consciousness due to a medical episode. Hingos ran to the pond and dove in, pulling Huber-Lucas through the open sunroof of her rapidly sinking vehicle.

“Some people will watch, some will call 911, but there’s that 1% of people that will act. Dwayne is in that 1%, and we’re lucky to have him,” said Tim Byrd, Medline manager. “He said he was just doing what anyone else would do, but that is not true; he went far above and beyond that day, and he is a hero.”
