OSHA Awards Over $12M in Safety Training Grants

September 19, 2023

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has awarded approximately US$12.7 million in Susan Harwood Training Grants to 100 nonprofit organizations.

OSHA’s annual program is designed to fund in-person safety and health training for workers and employers in industries with high injury, illness, and fatality rates; underserved youth; workers with limited English proficiency; and small businesses. The grants honor Susan Harwood, former director of OSHA’s Office of Risk Assessment, who helped develop numerous federal standards to protect workers.

“These grants are one of our most effective resources for providing training and education to hard-to-reach workers in high-hazard industries. More than a third of the awardees will be conducting training in the south, improving our training footprint in an area with a large, underserved workforce,” said U.S. Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Doug Parker. “Training should be a key part of ensuring vulnerable workers are in safe and healthy environments and that they feel safe at work.”
