P&G Ceases Manufacturing Operations in Nigeria

December 11, 2023

Proctor & Gamble (P&G), parent company of Proctor & Gamble Professional (P&G PRO), has announced plans to discontinue manufacturing operations in Nigeria.

P&G’s move to an import-based model comes in response to difficulties in operating as a dollar-denominated business in Nigeria’s current economic environment, Global Cosmetic News reports. Although Nigeria annually contributes US$50 million to P&G’s $85 billion portfolio, the company has faced ongoing challenges in the region, including a planned shutdown of a major production plant in 2018 and significant downsizing in 2021.

“It is difficult for us to operate because of the macroeconomic environment,” said Andre Schulten, P&G chief financial officer (CFO). “So, with that in mind, we are announcing a restructuring program with the intent to adjust the operating model and portfolio, ensuring that we maintain the discipline that has brought us to this point.”
