Two Georgia-Pacific Facilities Honored for Conservation Efforts

August 31, 2023

Georgia-Pacific LLC, parent company of GP PRO, has announced that two of the company’s facilities have been recertified to the Wildlife Habitat Council’s (WHC) Conservation Certification®.

WHC’s certification is a voluntary sustainability program designed for broad-based biodiversity enhancement and conservation education activities on corporate landholdings. Participants must submit documentation to earn recertification every two years to ensure efforts are continuous.

Georgia-Pacific was recognized for the conservation efforts of its containerboard mills in Monticello, Mississippi, and Big Island, Virginia. Both properties have been WHC-certified for several years and feature hundreds of acers of forest and wetlands areas, supporting a wide variety of local wildlife.

“Working for and supporting WHC certification at the Big Island mill gives me the satisfaction of knowing that Georgia-Pacific shares my conservation and sustainability goals,” said Dennis Austin, wood and fiber supply area manager at Georgia-Pacific’s Big Island facility. “Whether it’s planting trees, providing food and shelter to wildlife, or improving the natural habitat, it’s exciting to know that the work we do today will benefit the environment for future generations.”
