- ISSA Opens Registration & Offers Affordable Hotels!
ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America—which grew by double digits in 2008, when most association shows were flat or declined—is expected to outpace the market yet again this year, when it returns to McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, October 6-9.
“When the economy tightens, we’ve seen more companies attend the annual convention than other industries witness,” said ISSA Director of Industry Outreach Dianna Bisswurm. “Now is the time that people are looking for true innovation, new solutions, and ways to differentiate themselves. Plus, we have a growing percentage of the top cleaning decision-makers attending the show, and companies that serve them realize the importance of being seen at the industry’s major event of the year.”
This year’s exhibit sales—an indicator of the industry’s confidence in the event—are on par with exhibit sales for last year at the same point in time before the show. In fact, more than 50 companies that did not exhibit in 2008 have signed up for the show in 2009, and the association is still seeing some returning exhibitors increase booth size over the previous year. ISSA has also been able to negotiate more reasonable hotel rates and room availability than was the case for the previous Chicago show.
Among the steps ISSA has taken to ensure the success of this year’s show is the new alliance with the Building Service Contractors Association International, or BSCAI, which will co-locate its fall executive seminar with the ISSA/INTERCLEAN event this year and co-locate its annual convention with ISSA/INTERCLEAN starting in 2010. ISSA also recently announced a new alliance with the Professional Retail Store Maintenance Association, or PRSM, which represents decision-makers from North America’s top retail organizations, who will be able to register for ISSA/INTERCLEAN at an alliance discount.
This year’s ISSA Educational Conference will have a strong focus on business advice to help attendees succeed in a tough economy. There are a host of fresh faces in this year’s lineup, covering a range of topics, from building relationships and innovating to unlocking trapped cash in your operations. They will be joined by a cadre of the most popular speakers from previous events, such as renowned economist Alan Beaulieu, facility-management expert Steven Spencer, sales guru Jim Pancero, and the inspirational favorite Joachim de Posada.
The association has also developed an Educational Facilities Day, October 9, to help showcase its initiative to develop a Clean Standard for K-12 schools as well as feature a number of sessions—right on the tradeshow floor—regarding cleaning in educational facilities and how to comply with the green-procurement requirements for schools that are popping up in many U.S. states.
Multiple distributor-marketing groups and associations will once again host member functions during ISSA/INTERCLEAN week while such alliance partners as the International Executive Housekeepers Association, or IEHA, the National Floor Safety Institute, or NFSI, and the Association of Residential Cleaning Services International, or ARCSI, will return to co-locate events during the week.
New Registration Features
The new registration process ISSA has employed for 2009 will offer attendees a number of new features, including the ability to view seminar details without leaving the registration process, select key sessions to attend, and download that custom agenda to personal Outlook calendars. In fact, those attendees with Outlook on their PDAs are now able to create a mobile calendar of key seminars and events. The service will also allow attendees to view the most popular sessions as selected by peers in the same company type, invite a friend, and much more. Register today at www.issa.com/register.
New Green Connections Center
Attendees at the 2009 show will also encounter a major new attraction located at the center of the exhibit hall. The Green Connections Center will feature the first-ever fully operating mock restroom, where new products will be placed and regular demonstrations held during the show’s three exhibit days. Short, 15-minute sessions will feature technology, scientific updates, standard and certification reports, and much more. The area will also offer a Green Product Showcase, where attendees can get a close look at the newest in environmentally preferable products, and a Resource Library, where free case studies, white papers, and research reports will be available to take home. A Green Connections Pavilion, next to the Green Connections Center, will feature exhibitors that represent government agencies, certifying bodies, environmental and green cleaning consultants, and much more. This is one spot you can’t afford to miss at this year’s event. To learn more, visit www.issa.com/gc.
New Bright Ideas Site
More than 85 percent of attendees at last year’s event said they took home at least one bright idea that helped their business. So ISSA decided the industry shouldn’t have to wait to start capitalizing on the bright ideas that await attendees at this year’s show. The result: ISSA has created a customized microsite where speakers, alliance partners, and other participants in ISSA/INTERCLEAN will regularly post business tips, industry-trend updates, and other ideas that can be shared, expanded upon, and voted on for their value using a tie-in with the social-networking site www.digg.com. You can find these valuable ideas at www.issabrightideas.com, and each one will link back to related seminars or events at the show this fall.
Other New Features
The show will continue to provide added value in 2009 with the addition of a Facilities Maintenance Pavilion, created at the overwhelming request of attendees: More than 40 percent of in-house and contract-cleaning attendees asked for such an area following the 2008 show.
Also by popular demand, ISSA has expanded the networking opportunities available during the week by offering a Show Floor Round Table Lunch right in the exhibit hall, Thursday, October 8, at noon.
“The networking lunch that we host on the show’s main education day each year has been such a success that we wanted to offer additional opportunities such as this later in the week as well,” said Bisswurm. “Now the second day of the exhibition will feature the keynote address in the morning, this Show Floor Round Table Lunch midday, and the popular Show Floor Happy Hour at the end of the day.”
This year’s Happy Hour will feature a dueling-piano group that will entertain attendees as they unwind and network near the Green Connections Center in the middle of the show floor.
For people who hate to be too far from their office during the busy week, ISSA will also offer a Laptop Center in the exhibit hall, where attendees can plug in their laptops and keep in touch with their employees and customers.
