The inaugural awards program recognizes individuals for making a significant impact in promoting a healthier and safer sustainability-focused environment. This year’s recipients will be honored during a ceremony at ISSA Show North America 2019 taking place November 20 at 2:30 p.m. in the ISSA Resource Center, Booth C12.

This year’s honorees include:

  • Katy Severinsen: District Manager for Aramark

Ecocleen Acquires Regency Cleaning Services

Ecocleen Services Ltd. has finalized its acquisition of Regency Cleaning Services.

The deal, valued at more than US$3.7 million, increases Ecocleen’s presence in the automotive and education markets and expands the company’s franchise network in the United Kingdom, European Cleaning Journal reports. Per the terms of the transaction, Regency Cleaning’s managing director Jean-Henri Beukes will join Ecocleen’s team as commercial director.

Dalco Among Top Area Family Businesses

Dalco Enterprises Inc. has been named a recipient of Twin Cities Business Magazine’s 2019 MN Family Business of the Year Award.

Dalco was one of five Minneapolis, Minnesota-area businesses to receive the publication’s annual award. Tell Congress to Support USMCA
The window of opportunity to pass the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), a proposed trade agreement with Canada and Mexico, is quickly shrinking. The U.S. Congress needs to hear from the cleaning industry and understand there are millions of jobs at stake if they don’t pass the USMCA. Join ISSA in telling Congress to pass USMCA.

China Says It Has an Agreement With the United States to Roll Back Tariffs
CNBC reports “Gao Feng, a ministry spokesperson for China’s Commerce Ministry, said that both sides had agreed to simultaneously cancel some existing tariffs on one another’s goods, according to the country’s state broadcaster. The ministry spokesperson said that both sides were closer to a so-called ‘phase one’ trade agreement following constructive negotiations over the past two weeks.” ISSA has been proactively pushing for the roll back of the tariffs as a member of Americans for Free Trade coalition.

New California Training Standards Adopted to Protect Janitors from Workplace Harassment
California Governor Gavin Newsome recently signed a bill setting peer-to-peer training standards to help protect custodial workers from workplace harassment. The legislation will go into effect on January 1, 2021. ISSA has been engaged on this issue and has created a summary of harassment training requirements for all 50 states.

ABM to Fuel JetBlue

ABM has been contracted to provide into-plane fueling services  for JetBlue Airways Corp. flights out of George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Texas.

ABM was previously contracted by United Airlines to provide similar services at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Financial terms of the agreement were not announced.

“We partner with JetBlue for a number of services at airports across the country, including catering logistics, as well as janitorial and passenger services, and we are excited to add into-plane fueling,” said Stan Livingston, ABM vice president.

Office Depot Closes Sale of European Divisions

Office Depot has finalized the divestment of its subsidiaries in the Czech Republic and Slovakia to PBS Holding.

The US$33 million sale was announced earlier this year. According to Office Depot’s parent firm Aurelius, the transaction is part of an ongoing transformation of the company’s operations in Europe, OPI reports.

Jaros (pictured far right) joined GOJO in 2016 from Walnut Ridge Strategic Management Co. as chief strategy officer. She was named chief operating officer in 2018.
