According to the 2018 Liberty Mutual Workplace Safety Index, slips, trips, and falls were the second leading cause of all workplace injuries, accounting for 17.7% of direct costs associated with such injuries. Totaling in the cost of claims, losses, lawsuits, and other court cases, approximately US$150 billion annually is spent per year in the U.S. on slips, trips, and falls litigation.

As the founder and chairman of the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI), Russ Kendzior is all too familiar with slips, trips, and falls litigation. Founded in 1997, the non-for-profit NFSI provides a wide range of safety services including independent product testing and certification, educational training, and standards development.

In this episode of Straight Talk!, Kendzior describes the state of the industry regarding floor safety, slips, trips, and falls, and how both ISSA and NFSI can team up to bring awareness of important issues. While everyone involved can be a potential target for litigation, it’s also an industry-wide effort to prevent individuals from getting hurt, as there are no winners in slip-and-fall lawsuits.

Watch or listen to the complete episode below to find out how ISSA and NSFI are working together to protect people from these easily avoidable accidents. You can also download an audio MP3 of the episode here.
