- Join ISSA Foundation's Pacific Quake & Tsunami Relief Effort
March 16, 2011 — In partnership with AmeriCares and Gifts In Kind International (GIK), the ISSA Foundation is asking all ISSA members to consider helping the victims whose lives have been devastated by the recent earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
AmeriCares reports that Japanese Self-Defense Forces have been mobilized sending over 100,000 military personnel to the affected region in the north. According to the United Nations, search and rescue teams from 45 countries have been offered to Japan.
Michelle Jackson, AmeriCares emergency response manager, said that "Hospitals and institutions are struggling to evaluate their situation as the government grapples with the huge scale of this disaster; we are assessing the most immediate medical needs. We are prepared to support hospitals and health responders with the supplies they need to diagnose, treat, and heal survivors."
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
AmeriCares has stressed that it is in desperate need of monetary donations, as the agency is not yet certain what product donations will be needed to assist the victims of Japan. By making a financial contribution to the ISSA Foundation, you can assist in providing shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need.
To help financially, please download a contribution form here (PDF) and forward it to Tracy Weber, Operations Manager, ISSA Foundation. Please make checks payable to the ISSA Foundation; we will send one lump sum to AmeriCares on behalf of the industry.
The ISSA Foundation is also working with GIK to access what products are needed at this time. GIK is cautiously working through their emergency relief network and international partnerships to assess the appropriate action and response. We will let you know when they have more information regarding what products are needed. If you prefer to assist immediately with aid, we highly recommend sending cash donations.
Thank you for your support!
