Recently, there has been a national push to increase the minimum wage at the federal, state, and local levels. Since labor makes up roughly 90% of the costs for cleaning service providers, these wage mandates can significantly impact our members.
ISSA supports competitive market wages for all workers but urges policymakers not to adopt a one-size-fits-all wage mandates that harm businesses. For instance, many state minimum wage laws don’t make a distinction between rural and urban areas, where the cost of living could be vastly different. This puts smaller businesses owners at a disadvantage because it is harder for them to adjust to increased labor costs.
